How should we react to decision-makers applying technology as a tool of oppression?
Mt. Whateverest studies the relationship between culture and progress by inspecting the influence of technology on society. As amateurs, the decision-makers can’t understand the potential of technology and make hasty decisions under pressure.
The developers who understand systems are not interested in traditional political power, as hacker ethics is inherently anarchist. When you know the system thoroughly, you understand the possibilities of what can be achieved. It’s better that the decision-makers don’t know that the revolution has already happened.
What does it matter that Mt. Everest is the highest mountain, as so many have already climbed it?
Max Wernér (b. 1984) works in the intersection of art, technology and political performance, covering internet based works, programming, sculpture and direct action in public space. Previous works have been shown at W139 in Amsterdam, MCA Chicago, Furtherfield in London and the Night of the arts in Helsinki. Mt. Whateverest is Max Wernér’s first solo exhibition.
