SUOMEKSI

This exhibition explores the embodied experience of childhood grief and its persistent presence across a lifetime. After losing her father at age 13, the artist has spent years re-examining this formative loss through tactile processes that transform emotional weight into physical form. The title reflects both the inescapable nature of profound grief and the eventual integration of loss into one's identity.

The exhibition becomes a space where private grief finds public witness, where making becomes a form of reclamation, and where viewers are invited to consider their own relationship with loss. These pieces collectively trace a journey of carrying grief not as something to overcome, but as an integral part of self—acknowledging that everywhere we go, our stories of love and loss travel with us, shaping how we move through the world.

Through this intuitive, process-driven work, Conolly navigates the tension between Britain's "stiff upper lip" culture and the profound need for authentic emotional expression. What began as private reconciliation with childhood embarrassment and shame has evolved into a creative practice that honors the physical weight of emotional experience.
