Oksasenkatu 11 / OK11

Oksasenkatu 11 (founded 2008) is an artist-run art space located in Töölö, Helsinki. OK11 specializes in exploring new forms within and outside the art field, adapting to the ever-changing contemporary art scene, and experimenting with the fusion of various multidisciplinary art forms. The venue hosts exhibitions showcasing visual art, installations, spatial art, communal art projects, media art, and other innovative forms of expression.

Oksasenkatu 11 a non-profit art space and refuses to charge rent or take provision from artists and of their works. OK11 works for artist rights and changing the norms of Finnish art scene. The aim is to showcase experimental and ambitious ways of representing art without commercial attributes.

The curatorial team at OK11 comprises artists with diverse backgrounds and practices, spanning visual arts, media art, photography, comics, theatre, performance art and music. The 2024 curatorial team includes Athanasía Aarniovuo, Jenna Jauhiainen, Utu-Tuuli Jussila, Lauri Antti Mattila, Ida Palojärvi, Taneli Rautiainen, and Julius Valve. The other team consists of producer Ella Tahkolahti and auditor Leena Pukki.

Over the years funding has been provided by: Kone Foundation, Reitz Foundation, Finnish Cultural Foundation, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, Svenska Kulturfonden, Oskar Öflunds Stiftelse, Frame and Nordic Culture Point. 2022–023 gallery is supported by City of Helsinki, Finnish Cultural Foundation and Oskar Öflunds Stiftelse. From 2024 onwards the gallery is supported by the Kone Foundation.

THE SPACE

Oksasenkatu 11 is situated in Töölö district, near to the Helsinki city centre. The name of the gallery is also its postal address.

OK11 is a two floor space that consists of the entrance level and a cellar space. Characteristic to the space are the chess squared floors and the cave-like cellar.

ACCESSIBILITY


The space is unfortunately unaccessible for wheelchairs. There is a 3 cm high doorstep and rampless staircase of four steps when entering the space. The width of the door is 85 cm. When entering downstairs you have to go down steep stairs to get to the ground floor space. There is no elevator to the cellar. There is a small toilet in the space.
