Gallery Oksasenkatu 11 had an Open Call on January 2019 with a theme AIR.
Eight art works that were supporting each other and dealing with the theme in an interesting way were selected for the exhibition. The show consists of moving image, installations, sound works and a concrete poem.
Choreographer Rea-Liina Brunou, atmospheric researcher Ilona Riipinen and sound designer Miki Brunou present together a radio play, which invites the listener to concentrate on the constant exchange between air and our bodies.
J. Koho has made a sound artwork with manipulating wind sounds recorded on a ferry travelling between Finland and Sweden.
Poet Henrik Pathirane shows his concrete poem called Gravity printed on paper.
Artist Siiri Pohjolainen presents a textile installation New fresh air made with tulle glued on the wall.
Artist Anna-Maria Saar’s video and photograph, which show her releasing poplar seeds in the wind. The gesture symbolizes letting go of her past feelings.
En plain air is a looped video installation by artist Hanna Saarikoski. In the video the artist is shown breathing behind a window with the sequences of the steam blurring the contours of her face and the picture sharpening again alternateting.
Artist Virpi Stjerna shows a participatory installation with glass jars functioning as containers for negative feelings.
Artist Marja Viitahuhta’s video installation consists of images of breaths on a cold winter night twirling and layered in air and collaged sounds.
